I do not want to be nosy or anything, but some odd things have happend, and i would like to know why. Firstly, why was codeforum.org not available on any of my devices yesterday and the day before. And also, why did i have to reset my password because it said i didn't have one, but i did. Again,i don't want to be nosy, but i would just like an explanation of this odd string off events.

Hey there, @GameZee.

Unfortunately, I don't have an answer as to why CF was down for the past couple of days. But by going by the message that was displayed, I believe @Master Yoda was tinkering with something on the server-side. That's my guess, but again, I don't have an exact answer. Either that or the hosting-provider for CF went down.

Regarding your password, you might have just simply forgotten it. It's quite common to forget a password, especially for new accounts you've made or accounts you don't login into often enough. Nobody would have been able to access your account anyway, as the site was down. As long as the site is down, nobody can get onto it and login. Or you may have just been typing in your password wrong. It's one or the other, but I believe the latter is the most likely.

If you do fear that you are being hacked, I suggest enabling 2FA(Two-Factor-Authentication) on your account. It will send a code to your email account which you must verify. If the hacker cannot get into that email, then you should be safe. I would also suggest enabling 2FA on the email too, just to be on the safe-side.

I will tag, @Master Yoda, just to come in anyway and provide an answer too.

Side-Note: For your 2FA email, I would also suggest linking your CF account to a burner-email that you only use specifically for CF. Use an email-provider such as Protonmail for your CF burner-account. But whatever you do, do not delete the account. If you do, you cannot get your access-codes.

Ok,i will do that.
Good idea.

As I suggested, use a burner-email account for 2FA on only CF - But don't delete that email. Also, don't use an email-alias either as they tie into your main address. So if anybody uses your alias instead and also know your password, they can still get into all of your emails.

In the meantime, perhaps look-up online on how to keep safe if you're a little bit scared. Believe me, it will benefit you by a large margin. Give @Master Yoda sometime to respond though, as he is a busy person, plus we all live in different timezones too, so there's that.

True. Yet i have a feeling he might be on because it says 3 people are on online, and admin/staff member's names do not show up, so yeah. But still,i'll wait. Bye.

The names of staff-members do show-up on the currently-online list, except if the staff-member has configured their account to not show-up on that list. I know for a fact that @Master Yoda, has not configured his account to adhere to that setting, so you'll know when he's online. The same setting applies to any other user, staff-member or not.

It was brought to my attention that certain backend features that Code Forum uses were exposing our IP (no data was stolen) but as precaution I shut down the website. I still have some work to complete so the website will go down maybe a couple times this week.

changes needed:
  • New email server
  • Proxy server
  • Switched from Apache to Ngnix.

I'm surprised to hear this. I'm just glad that no data was exposed though or else we'd all be screwed right now.

Also, why the switch from Apache to Nginx? I don't see anything wrong with Apache, although, I haven't hosted any websites with it. I've only used it for playing around with PHP and that, but yeah, why switch? Is there something that Nginx offers that Apache doesn't have? Just curious.

We switched due to better performance and some security improvements.
