Solved No "Edit" Button?

Hey there.

I've recently setup this thread(thread), which people can make submissions to. After they submit something, if anything catches my eye and is quite good, I'll stick it to the original post so that one can quickly access it without having to go elbow-deep into the replies.

The thing is, I cannot edit my posts so I can go back and add high-quality submissions to it(or even add any submissions of my own if I wanted to). Would it be possible to enable an "edit" button? It helps for these kinds of threads, plus, it allows one to go back and fix any errors they made in their posts.

Thanks.

Hell yes!

Yeah, there is an edit button, but it is disabled 5 minutes after the post has been posted. The goal of that is to help avoid people editing their post and replace them with something like "Nevermind" once it gets solved.

@Malcolm ?

Hey @Hassapiko,

Exactly what @LTomy mentioned, we were having a major increase in coders editing their threads to say "Nevermind" or "figured this out", it was determined that someone that makes a post is likely to find an answer within the first 10mins then change the content so it was adjusted to only 5 minutes to combat this.

For now, if it's a big change then contact a member of the staff team. If it's an update just reply to the thread. Of course as we go forward we can definitely look into adjusting this time or removing it all together.

Update: I have edited the permissions for the General Discussion forum, you should be able to edit now. But all other forums will continue to have the 5 minute timer for now. Let me know if you can edit the thread.

Thank you for the explanation. Although such a rule can be a slight nuisance for people who want to add/remove/update information, I think it's fine to keep it if people are just going to delete entire posts to replace them with a simple "solved".

And yes, I can edit my thread now.

Thanks again.

You're welcome! It is indeed, I can completely understand it's a slight nuisance. We'll see what other options we have but like I mentioned above we are trying to minimize the unnecessary post editing.

Wonderful! Thank you for the update and feedback!

Would it be possible to limit editing only for new members?
