Any "!=" in most/all programming languages means "not equal to", "5 != 8" would be a correct expression.

However, if my memory serves me correctly, you can't show equals with "=" in java script except maybe in certain situations. So, that's why there's "==" and "!==". There are probably situations where you do something different with strings, numbers, and other data types...I hope this helps.
 
I really don't see the point of comparing a number with a string, and leave it to the interpreter/compiler to figure out what it is you want. If you have to compare two objects, do the right thing and first make sure they are of the same type. That seems like good programming to me.
