PHP Difficulty of translating Python code to PHP

I have just started to learn some programming as I was supposed to do a small web scraping project with Python. Now I was told that I cannot use Python, but should use PHP. So far I just know some Python basics and no other language. Thus, I am wondering if you think it were easier for me to proceed with Python and translate the code into PHP later or start from scratch with PHP directly.

I have not written that much code yet.

Thanks in advance.

My opinion, if it needs to be php, then you should start with php.
I started with php when it first came out and used it up to php5. Then learned a little about bash and then found out about python and really liked it.
That's my thing now. I'm a novice user I guess when it comes to python. My opinion the code is a lot cleaner and simpler.

If you know it has to be PHP, don't waste time starting off in Python just because you know a bit of that. It's false economy. You might find early on that you need to do something that Python cannot (for example accessing the HTTP request headers, although perhaps Python can do that stuff too), or worse, you might unwittingly do stuff in in Python that you later find cannot be done in PHP. Best to dive right in and learn another language.
