Python Good items to have in portfolio?

Hello World,

i am new to coding, just poking around in python. And I am looking to start developing a portfolio. I was wondering what projects you guys could recommend that would really wow an employer besides the obvious of making a website. I will then work backwards to figure out extra code etc and how to do it. this would be a huge help to me. Thank you all in advance.

Right now I would recommend some of the following, no matter how basic.
- AI (Shape detection, tic tac toe, color detection, number reading, etc are good starters)
- Scripting, like recursive functions, looping over an unknown data set, crawling data that has different formats, etc.
- Data sorting, analytics, and efficient searching & storage
