Java How do I move a variable into a new action listener?

I have two separate classes that each have an action listener, with one class activating the second. In the first class, the actionPerformed method initializes a String array that cannot be initialized beforehand as the length of the array depends on previous user input. I am looking for a way to add a parameter to the second actionPerformed method, but nothing seems to work.
