Python How to start programing a Pet sim? Just a stupid project for friends to pass time.

So I want to program a pet sim with breeding features for me and my friends to mess around with, But I am not sure how to start out. I have some Youtube videos saved, but they only cover one part of what I need or the other, and I am confusing myself. If anyone could help me out with this that would be great! Thank you!

Are you talking about creating a game from scratch or about a mod?
Creating a game requires a great amount of experience in the programming language used. You should start by getting confortable with the basics of a programming language and then learn about libraries for that language that provides graphical functionnalities (Opening windows, drawing graphics...).
However, note that creating a video game is not all about coding. There is also a lot of art involved (Pictures, 3d models, musics, voices?...).
