Problem with footer width

Hi all,

I'm having a problem with my footer width. With the specific div id, the footer does not appear, and with just the footer tag it doesn't stretch as it should across the full length of the page. The code directly below is for my Art.css page:

footer #footer,
#roche1 {
  background: #ec1801;
  padding: 0px;
  margin-top: 60px;
  text-align: left;
  width: 100%;
  position: absolute;
  left: 0;
}

In my general CSS, I have this code:

footer {
  background-color: #1e4cad;
  float: left;
  bottom: 0;
  font-size: 26pt;
  width: 100%;
  position: relative;
  overflow: hidden;
}

and the footer works as it should. Help as always is appreciated. Thank you very much.

Oh sorry Tom. This is solved now. I am going to post another question shortly which I'm really confused about though!
