Styling an HTML site with CSS without changing the code

Hi! I need help with a school assignment. The assignment is to style a website with at least two images, and making it easier to read without changing the HTML. We have received a code but we may only link to our own CSS file and therefore make no other changes inside the HTML code. I am very much a beginner so I was just wondering, what are some easy things you can do with only CSS to change the appearance of your site?

It is a long list of things you can do with CSS, alignment, size, colors, text, borders, background, shadows, etc.
What do you want to do?
I find making bold big text and black font on a white background maybe with borders and padding like most readable.
I think I should let you do learning on how but that sort of stuff is what you can do.
