CSS A question about the background:image url("........");

Hello all,

I've come across the CSS background image and I'm simply curious as to how exactly you get the 'url' part.
Do you download an image to a file and insert the imagename.jpg into the ("")
Do you go online and selecting an image right click and copy image address-and use the entire image address in the ("")?
Or do you go online click right just copy the image, and insert it into the ("")

I also wanted to ask about changing the entire background, from a single colour to either gradient colours, or an image, again how would you do this?

I'm having no luck with the image URL, I have looked online but I still don't get where folks are getting their image URL's from, all they show is some image (with no explanation as to how they chose this image, and what they did to get it and insert it into the ("") part)

Please help here 🙂

Thanks

Hello @Silver-Chimes!

Great question! My understanding is that you would like know what exactly you can add in the url part of background-image and changing a background color to gradient colours. I can certainly recognize how important this to you as it can help spice your pages up. We'd be happy to help!

So for the URL of background-image can be either a path e.g. /images/background.img should look like ("/images/background.img") or a url so for example https://codeforum.org/logo.png which should look like ("https://codeforum.org/logo.ong").

As for the gradient-colours; I found some great documentation which goes over this from w3schools. You can find that by Clicking Here. You will find how to create CSS Linear Gradients, using angles, Using multiple colour stops, using transparency, repeating a linear-gradient.

The CSS syntax looks similar to this:
CSS:
background-image: linear-gradient(direction, color-stop1, color-stop2, ...);
