  • Guest, before posting your code please take these rules into consideration:
    • It is required to use our BBCode feature to display your code. While within the editor click < / > or >_ and place your code within the BB Code prompt. This helps others with finding a solution by making it easier to read and easier to copy.
    • You can also use markdown to share your code. When using markdown your code will be automatically converted to BBCode. For help with markdown check out the markdown guide.
    • Don't share a wall of code. All we want is the problem area, the code related to your issue.

GIF shows where to locate </> in the thread and or post editor toolbar.

PHP 5.4php to 7

If you scroll down to the very bottom of the PHP documentation page, you'll find pages on how to convert to a newer version: https://www.php.net/manual/en/

Although, from what I've read so far of them, they don't discuss anything on converting version but rather just discuss what you should know about the changes, additions, removals, and what's been depreciated.

I'm not a PHP programmer, but I assume it's just as simple as upgrading the current PHP package with the latest version. Again, I'm not sure as I don't write PHP code. Try looking around online on how to change to a newer version. I'm sure you'll find something.

Also, as a suggestion, make a back-up of the current copy of the website in case anything goes wrong. PHP is a broken mess of a language every new update(From what I've heard) and so anything could go wrong. Parts of the website could break or even worse, data gets lost and can never be recovered. So, make a back-up copy of the current copy of the site, and in the case anything goes wrong, swap out the changed copy with the back-up. But, be sure to back-up the back-up and so on. You may be there a while.

You will need to make sure it's installed properly on the server. If you are using WHM, you can then choose what version of PHP you are using for each account. You can also install modules, choose packages, etc. It's very hard to just explain how to do it because it depends on what type of server you have, how you are managing accounts, etc.

The biggest thing is that some pages will fail when you upgrade. You need to make sure error handling is updated, modules are installed, etc.
We do PHP upgrades at my company Wubur, but we charge around $35-55 per hour for the process and the average migration for a large site is anywhere from $500-1,500 depending on the number of changes needed.

Going into WHM isn't required. If you go into cPanel go to -> php configuration right under the Software section. You can then easily switch PHP versions from the drop down which should have them all available.

If for some reason the server does not have php 7 ready to go then that's when you would need WHM for that. Then you would basically need to use Easy Apache to install it which isn't hard either but only required if php 7 isn't already available from the drop down which 9 times out of 10 is is available.

If it's not available in php configuration you can follow this tutorial and install it with WHM using easy apache -> https://www.inmotionhosting.com/support/website/upgrade-php-easyapache/

Let me know if that solved your issue.
