We have made changes to several vital areas that will impact your experience here at Code Forum. However, we hope this will have a more positive impact on you. Without further ado, we have updated the Spam Prevention System/Filtering and moderator procedures, and we have also redefined CF memberships and their offerings.
First, we have updated our spam prevention system and filtering. I can't go into too many specifics as I don't want spammers using my post to bypass these measures. For starters, we now have over 1219+ keywords in our word filter to help bring problematic users to our attention more quickly. For example, anything related to pills (🙄) will be flagged and notified to us on our internal Slack workspace.
Although we are aware that some legitimate users are being flagged, we understand the frustration and apologize. However, the results are looking very good; I've noticed a significant decrease in spam posts. With that said, a guardian will generally clear your post within a couple of hours, but can take up to 48 hours in extreme cases.
Second, we have made some changes to our membership tiers for several reasons. Sadly, we hadn't had a single membership sign-up 😥, so we made a few changes to hopefully make it more enticing. These membership changes do help with some added spam prevention methods and aim to tackle those who abuse the profile details section. If you have fewer than 15 messages, you are unable to edit your About Me, signature, desired or current skills, locations, social tags, etc. (we've had a few people adding URLS to locations, desired skills, etc.).
Once you have 15 messages, you'll be automatically granted the required permissions for editing basic profile fields (note: if you purchase a membership, you'll receive these features instantly). There are several benefits to buying a membership, including a higher limit for links, lines, images, and smilies within your signature. You'll gain access to the job board, the ability to hire or offer paid or free services, access to the private Slack workspace, a coloured username, and no advertisements.
