  • Guest, before posting your code please take these rules into consideration:
    • It is required to use our BBCode feature to display your code. While within the editor click < / > or >_ and place your code within the BB Code prompt. This helps others with finding a solution by making it easier to read and easier to copy.
    • You can also use markdown to share your code. When using markdown your code will be automatically converted to BBCode. For help with markdown check out the markdown guide.
    • Don't share a wall of code. All we want is the problem area, the code related to your issue.

GIF shows where to locate </> in the thread and or post editor toolbar.
To learn more about how to use our BBCode feature, review our "How to post your code into threads" here.

The mathematician's patterns, like the painter's or the poet's, must be beautiful;
the ideas, like the colors or the words, must fit together in a harmonious way.
Beauty is the first test: there is no permanent place in this world for ugly mathematics."

– G. H. Hardy (1877–1947)

Concerning your Mandelbrot program.

Since the pixels can be computed in any order, an Adam7 interlace can improve the render.

When I view the fractal, I compute and display at the same time. I see a chunky image fast. It gets more detailed the longer I look at it, and I can pan and zoom at any time during a render.

It makes exploring a bit more fun.

The only drawback is the palette must be constant.

Concerning your cellular automata program.

I was captivated by Conway's game of life. Searching for an interesting pattern, or a small initial configuration that lasts a long time.

I wish I could get those hours of my own life back.

Spoiler alert, the glider is the only interesting pattern that emerges on its own.

In Conway's biography he gives the impression that he was a bit tired of talking about it.

These days I use it like a lava lamp, it gives my eyeballs something to do while my brain is working on something more important.
