  • Guest, before posting your code please take these rules into consideration:
    • It is required to use our BBCode feature to display your code. While within the editor click < / > or >_ and place your code within the BB Code prompt. This helps others with finding a solution by making it easier to read and easier to copy.
    • You can also use markdown to share your code. When using markdown your code will be automatically converted to BBCode. For help with markdown check out the markdown guide.
    • Don't share a wall of code. All we want is the problem area, the code related to your issue.

    GIF shows where to locate </> in the thread and or post editor toolbar.
    To learn more about how to use our BBCode feature, review our "How to post your code into threads" here.

    Thank you, Code Forum.

Thread locked until author fixes the follow: Code not in BBCode.
so, i just made a binary search function (works, tested) and i want to make a get input function, in order to collect the array and the targeted number, but i do not know how to use multiple functions, and the variable seems to not work (arr) if i use it in the middle, and the result = search(arr, target) doesnt work, because the variables arent detected, can someone correct or point out the mistakes i made or send a code very close to this that should fix it?Thanks in advance

def get_input():
arr = []
target = 0
if target == 0:
target = input("pick a number to find: ")
while len(arr) < 5 :
x = input("pick a number:")
arr.append(x)
get_input()

def search(arr, target):
left = 0
right = len(arr) - 1
mid = (left + right ) // 2
while left <= right:
if arr[mid] == target :
return mid
elif target > arr[mid] :
left = mid + 1
else:
right = mid - 1
return -1

print(result)
