Method Recommendations on HTML/Python form with multiple buttons/POST actions

Hi everyone!

Newbie here -- Linux admin/Cisco/Firewall/network admin
(looking forward to helping people with DNS/firewall/routing issues, which I can do)

I, however, need to ask HTML gurus a "how best to do this"

Basically, I have a need to have a webpage with multiple buttons on it that execute different python scripts in cgi-bin.

This approach comes to mind....

A web page with various buttons labelled "Enable Equipment", "Disable Equipment", "Select Channel1", "Select Channel2", and so on
Those buttons would dictate the text values stored in a variable that is passed to a cgi-bin Python script.

Just for interest sake, that python script sends that (often two-letter) value to a serial port to control a piece of equipment.
The equipment then sends back some text that would need to be parsed to print on the page.

I currently have a few different Python scripts that I can manually run to submit predefined text to the controller over the serial port.
I'm going to rewrite that basic python script to take a command line $ARG1 with some ELSIF checking for validity and pass to the serial.write after sanity checking.
