HTML 404 issue on Google Search Console

In Google Search Console I see there are 404 errors for pages that were never present on my site.
For example:

http://mysite.com/future-vw-passat-3-liter-v6-turbo-diesel.html

http://mysite.com/replacing-a-transaxle-in-a-2003-passat.html

Can someone explain me this?

HI there, do you have a log file you can go through and see if there is any activity you don't recognize?

What exactly am I looking for? Log file is too big to manual search.

Any entry that happened since the last time you remember logging in. More specifically, look at the ip addresses being logged there. If there is an ip address that does not match yours, then there may be a possibility you may have gotten pwned.

I don't see any evidence that I was hacked of any kind.

Are you positive? Is there a way for you to check latest changes to your files? That would be my next step. Also, could those files have been there before and got removed?

I checked if they existed, and they never existed on the site.
Why Google Search Console is listing them as not found on my site?
I found some explanation that there are possible fake external links to my site that Google checks.
