Bootstrap CSS contact form not getting emails from certain emails

I use a bootstrap form I got some years ago on a number of sites. Recently, it seems if the person sending the message uses gmail...it does not get received.
The receiver can use gmail without a problem.

Example1
Example2

I have tried a range of different emails in the receiver, using my domain emails and gmail accounts and then tested sending emails using the contact form from real and fake addresses. I will receive all the emails except the ones from a gmail account (real or fake).

I don't understand how the sender's email can be the issue.

This SEEMS to be something related to Dreamhost, as I also use the form on this site without the issue happening on the other two, which are hosted on Dreamhost.

I would appreciate any help!

Have you checked your spam folder?

Sorry, yes, I should have said that. Both of us have (this is for two different forms). I have also tried them with an array of emails, same issue. All the emails come through except ones where the sender is gmail.

It looks like Gmail may have blocked incoming mail from your server IP. You may have to contact support and ask them to check if your IP is blocklisted at gmail.

The mail is not incoming from my server, that's the point. So my email is [email protected]. Someone is writing me from [email protected] - that email does not get sent to me.

But it does sound like the issue is Dreamhost then, not anything I've done with the coding, correct?
Ah sorry misunderstood. And just to confirm it’s just gmail not being delivered to your mailbox?

But I’d recommend double checking your spam filtering settings and perhaps contact your support to see if they are blocking those emails from being delivered.

Correct, but ONLY through the contact form. I get them fine otherwise. I also receive all other emails from the forms just fine.

It has nothing to do with my spam filters as I literally have none to ensure I don't miss emails (and I always check my spam folder), and the issue is happening to myself and the other person I made one of these sites for, regardless of the email accounts we use.

But, okay, so you think this could be a Dreamhost issue, which is what I was wondering. I'll give them a shout and see what they have to say. Thanks!

My guess to what's happening is that the email is being received from your contact form is somehow being triggering your mailbox (Dreamhost) filtering mechanism. And just to confirm this isn't just happening to one gmail user correct?

There are two emails being used to receive for the Dreamhost sites:
[email protected]
[email protected]

Both will not receive email from the contact form if the sender is using gmail. It's not an issue with anyone's mailbox.
What is your current setup for consumers sending email through the contact form? e.g are you using sendgrid? if not, then your server is the one sending the email. So technically it could be that your server IP is the one listed. If it's a shared IP then it's most likely a problem for everyone on that server.

I have no idea what sendgrid is. I am using a pre-made bootstrap form I found. I gave links to the sites using it.

The two sites hosted on Dreamhost are both under my account, so they are on the same server, that I can confirm. So if that's the problem, how do I fix it?

Thanks for replying and helping BTW. 😊

It's likely that the contact form has a script which allows it to be sent from the server.

This is where it becomes tricky. You will need to talk to your host, they will need to look in the logs for what is happening with your mail and unblock their IP. My suggestion, but can cost a bit of money is using a service like Sendgrid, it's a vendor that allows you to relay email through their servers to your recipients. There are other companies like Mailgun or Sparkposts.

No problem 🙂

Do me a favor... go in to your host's control panel and reset all passwords, go through all files and delete any that you know for a fact you did not upload. If the issue still persists, you may have to drop and restore your db to an earlier state.

Sorry for my very late reply, I got busy with another project.

Dreamhost said this:

"...because of recent changes made to the industry regarding email policies. DreamHost and other providers now require authorization in order to send mail over the server. This may require alteration of the scripts to have complaint information. You can review the new requirements here."

In some cases Google requires API integration on top of the SMTP authorization. I cannot Further information on this can be found here."

This is all WAY beyond my head. Can anyone tell me what exactly I need to do to get these working properly again?

Thanks!

You might need to get an api token from google for your email sender in order to send an email.

The PHP?

Again, this has nothing to do with sending. It's that neither of these contact forms are RECEIVING emails from gmail accounts. I only have the issue on the two sites above hosted by Dreamhost. Another site with the exact same contact form doesn't have this issue on GoDaddy.
