JavaScript Can't close my custom alert

My custom alert displays correctly but I can't work out how to close it after clicking the OK button.

function removeAlert2() {
  alert("Hello!");  //this displays so the function is being called but nothing I have tried will close it

  HTML_body = document.querySelector("body");
  alert_container = document.getElementById("alertContainer2");
  HTML_body.removeChild(alert_container);

alert_container = document.getElementById("alertContainer2");

I don't see where you assign an ID.

The id was assigned in the HTML, I only pasted the javascript. Following a suggestion elsewhere I have solved the problem with the statement:
alertContainer2.querySelector(".alert2").remove()
