HTML & CSS CSS Class Question

So this is the first video I'm watching on CSS.
When he types, for each of these buttons...

Code:
<button class="btn btn-1">button 1</button>

Does this put the button under two classes? Both "btn" and "btn-1" because of the space? It confuses me a bit because theres no comma in between them, so to me it would read as just one class: "btn btn-1"

But I have a feeling it may be two, because of the top right code

.btn { . . . .. .
}

and the only sight I have of "btn" as a class is the "btn" in "btn btn-1" and "btn btn-2" & same w/ 3.
