Hyperlink inserted between php code

New to this forum, but it has been very helpful in my searches. I thought this would be simple but apparently not. So I am reaching out to the forum.
I am trying to add a hyperlink into the php code $vehicleData->vin. I tried adding it right after </td> it gives me an error.

<tr><td>Vin: </td><td>'.$vehicleData->vin.'</td><a href="<?php echo base_url('home/status/'.$vehicleData->id);?>"></tr>

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you try adding it inside the <td> or in it's own <td>?

Only <td> or <th> are the allowed children of a <tr> element.

Tried them both. "Syntax error, unexpected identifier "home"" That is the error message. "Home" is the url address that I want it pointed to.

A quick google search seems to indicate a possible PHP syntax error.

@MyeGarage Sorry, I should have elaborated that it was a syntax error such as a missing semi-colon above this line.
