What kind of sensor? What kind of setup are you thinking of?

I'm guessing sensor = light, some sort of electrical switch. This in turn would be hooked to something line an Arduino or Raspberry Pi, which could then send a message to a device of choice.

hello, yes sorry i didn't have access to my laptop for a few days. its a laser light sensor. i have both a raspberry pi and an arduino board, but i don't really know where to start.

Do you have a datasheet/manual for the sensor? Can you tell us the part number?

Depending on the requirements of the sensor, you should be able to hook it up to either arduino or rpi. Depending on which one you choose, you can just start by making sure that you're getting data from the sensor. I should be able to help you more if you post data about the sensor part number here.
