Python problem to stabilize the values delivered for a machine

I have a problem to stabilize the values that delivers a sensor atacched to a machine. For example: once the sensor is started by means of the code, values between 0 and 210.77 are delivered. This sensor has a rope that is pulled, and values are delivered there. The issue is that when you do nothing, the values move very fast between 0 and 4 (including decimals), or, when you pull the string, and leave it fixed, the values move, for example, between 40 and 42 , but very quickly. My idea is that when nothing is done, or the string is left fixed, the values don't change.
Is there a way to solve this in python?
