HTML Should I set all web pages of like my website as canonical?

I do not have duplicates but I hear that search engines get confused when more than one URL can lead to one thing. I looked it up and looks like I should specify full from https://... to current thing as canonical on any things I specify as canonical. Obviously anything that has 2 ways to get to it I should set a canonical for but what about all other pages that have content? Should I set everything that should be as canonical or just 2 way things?

I do have like things that end in / like a directory redirects to .../index.php which is where most of that 2 ways comes from. There is home which redirects to just / with correct page though. Trying to do better SEO. Any advice would be good. Thanks. X E.

Can you explain what you mean by:

Okay, like say example.com or example.com/index.html are both same thing but to search engines it is like "which is canonical, I am confused". X E.

Or in my case like gugquettex.com/en or gugquettex.com/en/index.php are same thing, it redirects to second one always. X E.

most hosts let you configure that... or that should be configured in your web app itself

Yeah, I manually wrote that in, I like not typing all of my URLs and not having directory 404s. X E.

Yeah, there's a configuration that tells the interwebs what you want to be the landing page of your domain...depends on host and/or framework
